Calabria is a photographer, Northfield, Mass.; Hughie Lee-Smith, an African American painter. [Lee-Smith died Feb. 23, 1999]. The portrait toured with the 1997-1998 Lee-Smith retrospective as his representative portrait. Calabria used Lee-Smith's portrait of Moses Soyer as the inspiration for the work.
